Slime Survivor

Patch Notes

09/02/24
1.1.1.16

  • Been awhile since I posted one of these so this is gonna be a chonker and include notes for a bunch of updates.
  • Added some new upgrades
    • Leek - Smash a giant leek down as you dodge. Very powerful, but increases Dodge cooldown.
    • Spinach - Simple buff upgrade that gives an alternative to increasing damage but increases health instead of knockback
    • Honeycomb - A short range orbital that covers enemies in honey which makes them drop more pickups. Nice.
    • Lemonade - Increases lightning damage but causing all sparks to arc an additional time.
    • Cotton Candy - Increases orbital size and damage. Simple.
    • Sashimi - Short melee range attack that cleaves enemies in an arc. High knockback, like a true warrior.
    • Squid Ink - Shoots a barrage of fast projectiles that cover hit enemies in ink, and ink causes enemies to have a chance to miss on hitting the player, but will trigger on hit effects. Also, it causes enemies to take more damage from fire-based attacks, also... a chance to explode.
    • Mustard - Causes enemies hit with pretzel to sometimes go berserk, rushing at the player in rage, and pushing their bretheren aside, damaging them.
  • Added NPCs. A hiker who trades the player food that buffs thier in exchange for minerals, and a racoon ranger who doesn't do much yet but be adorable.
  • Added a new boss option for the Forest level! The Dust Bunny, a big bun with high health that occasionally splits into many, MANY, grey slimes.
  • Made trees and rocks destructable. Now, your bombs can cause absolute CARNAGE! Trees will fall by their might and drop pickups. Rocks will explode into shrapnel and reveal minerals that can be traded for delicious yum yums from the hiker.
  • Added a vignette effect when the player is at low health, or low focus. Blackness flor low health, closes in like the warm embrace of death. And whiteness for low focus, you might be ready to pass out from focusing so hard.
  • Added a new enemy, the sluggy tumor, who shoots slime balls in a radius around him. He means well but he's annoying. Also his slime balls have a small chance to span small sluggy kamakaze guys. You don't want that.
  • One new BGM track from White Bat Audio. Can't go wrong.
  • TONS of small tweaks, changes, and fixes... and some bugs, probably. Probably forgetting a lot. If I do, I'll update these notes.

1.1.1.1

  • Map is 3x larger and has more stuff in it. When player aims or goes behind an object, it will become transparent. There might be enemies or items behind there, so tread carefully!
  • 4 new upgrades.
    • Jalapeno Poppers - Bombs shock nearby enemies when they explode.
    • Grape Soda - Grape shots shock enemies and arcs to nearby enemies when an enemy is killed.
    • Leek - When the player dashes, they smash down a big leek, doing massive knockback and damage.
    • Green Tea - Gives XP a chance to heal the player. Also makes XP charge focus.
  • Some misc tweaks to existing updates
    • Ice based weapons now freeze enemies in a block of ice if enough cold damage is accumulated. This makes the enemy immoble and pacified, and lets the player kick them into other enemies, which shatters them into ice shards.
    • Updated Muffin Stump to shock nearby enemies when the shield is charged.
    • Changed onion to only increase cooldowns by 5%, but also gives the player 10HP.
    • Changed both mushroom upgrades a bit. Also, made spores damage the player over time, without triggering mercy. No more exploiting spore bombs
  • New BGMs added! The game will now cycle through available BGMs, instead of looping the same BGM. Player can cycle through BGMs from the pause menu by clicking the music note.
  • The leaderboard will now record the top 5 upgrades for the run that got that score. This will help players show off their top builds. The leaderboard also highlights the current player if they're on it.
  • Enemies spawn much more frequently, really creating that oppressive feeling. I've also buffed their health >:) With that, there have also been internal changes to how enemies spawn. It should improve performance, but let me know if you have lag.
  • When a chest spawns, an arrow will point to it's location, the player can also check the NEW minimap. Press Tab or M to toggle it. For now, this minimap only shows the picnic blanket and treasure locations. Don't worry, there are also hidden chests too, shhhh.
  • MANY other tweaks and subtle changes.

1.1.0.2

  • Small balance update, generally, made enemies harder to knockback and have more health.
  • Made some achievements more challenging to get, and others easier.
  • A mimic's favorite food is pizza. The game now reflects this.
  • Buffed chuffems, now the POW effect damages and knocks back enemies.
  • Buffed Banana, now enemies will always slip away from the player, with some variation. Bull slimes will also slip when charging.
  • A few other tweaks that escape my memory.

05/20/24
1.1.0.1

  • Added the Normal game mode! In this new mode, the player starts with only a few upgrades, but by playing the game they can earn achievements to unlock more upgrades. Additionally, the player has limited slots for main weapons, bomb upgrades, and buffs. Once all of those slots are used up, other upgrades will no longer appear in the shop.
  • Added achievements! Now when you accomplish certain feats (visible from Normal mode start menu), you get a little pop up and unlock new items!
  • Tweaked some game logic and massively customized the HTML5 runtime to improve performance on web and adding a few things that the runtime lacks (like serializing maps of structs, ugh)
  • Added an animation when the player rests at the picnic. They now throw food up in the air and catch it to heal themselves!
  • Added 3 new fishes!
  • Buncha other tweaks and bugfixes.

04/22/24
1.0.24.0

  • Pretty huge performance overhaul. It's still got a ways to go but enemies don't stutter-step anymore due to the performance hacks. And overall FPS stablity should be improved!
  • Added waves! Now, instead of enemies just rolling in randomly over time, you'll now have a better idea what enemies to expect each wave, and will have a better sense of progression.
  • Changed some upgrades:
    • Bloomin Onion - now causes onion rings to shoot mini onion rings at enemies
    • Tentacle - nerfed a bit, but now it does max damage at the tip of the tentacle and max knockback at the other end.
    • Made a bunch of the bomb upgrades slighly better by increasing bomb damage. (more to come later)
  • Added 3 new upgrades:
    • Banana - Raises max HP and also drops banana peels for enemies to slip on.
    • Pretzel - throws a pretzel in a random direction which bounces off the screen and damages enemies
    • Blood Orange - Raises max HP and gives kills a chance to heal a small amount of health.
  • You can now see what weapons are doing what damage in the pause menu. It's not perfected yet but should give you a better idea of where your damage is coming from!
  • Buncha other tweaks and bugfixes. Funky pause music.
  • This was a big update, I'm probably forgetting something... or multiple things... probably needs balancing and it might be buggy, as I wasn't able to do as much testing. But let me know if you find any bugs! I'll throw in an easter egg for you if you find a good one.

11/19/23
1.0.23.1

  • Added 3 new upgrades:
    • Pancakes - turns bombs into pancakes that slide along the ground and damage enemies and leave a trail of syrup.
    • Strawberry - Increases max health and also gives a strawberry sentry that destroys enemy projectiles and hazards.
    • Kale - Increases max health and also gives a chance for dropped pickups to automatically get attracted to the player.
  • Added Fishing!!! When the player hovers the mouse over the pond, and presses E, they can cast a fishing line. With some patience, they might be able to catch a fish, or more!
  • Added a much needed online leaderboard. Now players can compete for slime survivor domination!
  • Added a new hat and the ability to change hats on the loadout screen! More hats and changes to come! Stay tuned.
  • Some small graphical enhancements, tweaks, and fixes. One notable change is that trees no longer inhibit movement. They are just decoration.

9/7/23
1.0.22.2

  • Added a confirm action after selecting an upgrade in the Level Up menu. (You're welcome, Patrick)
  • Buffed corn chips.
  • Nerfed Chuff'ems BIGLY. Don't worry its still OP, it was just super extra OP before
  • Fixed bug causing chicken nuggy to not fire consistently.
  • Fixed bug with bosses not rendering when off-screen.
  • Fixed bug with loadout menu music not playing on a restart.

  • Added Corn Chips that can be aimed if selected, that pierces through enemies a set number of times.
  • Added Guacamole, an upgrade to corn chips that gives enemies the "Guacced" status effect, making them take 25% more damage. Upgrades make this effect last longer.
  • Updated website to work on more browsers and form-factors. (now using bootstrap!)
  • Moved drawing back to enemy objects and enabled depth-based draw ordering. (this killed performance, hence the below bullet)
  • Various performance tweaks.

8/21/23
1.0.21.1

  • Added new loadout menu to customize your runs by picking a limited number of upgrades to take with you.
  • I listened to some of the feedback about folks being annoyed they couldn't control some of the upgrades... well, now you can. Before, you could only control grape juice and shoot with the left mouse button. Well, now you can change which upgrade you have selected to "focus" on by using scroll wheel or number keys, and can influence the upgrade you have selected with your left mouse button, French Fry, Onion Ring, Chuff Ems, calimari, and nuggy can be controlled/influenced with the mouse if you select them.
    • Nuggy - can choose the attack target by clicking in its direction (great for bosses and strong enemies)
    • Tentacle and French Fry - can aim them in the direction of cursor
    • Onion ring - can drag the onion rings around and even bring them inward
    • Grape Juice - works like it used to but now also has a passive mode when you have another upgrade selected.
  • Other changes in the update: Gooseberry is cool now! When you get hit by an enemy, it sends thorn bushes in several directions that do significant damage to enemies. And popcorn was made more fun (previous update). Some small polish stuff as well.
